HOMA BAY, Kenya, Dec 8 – Two of the four children who were stabbed and poisoned by their father on Tuesday in Homabay have died while undergoing treatment.

A medical doctor at the Homa Bay County Hospital said the 3-year-old twins, Odongo and Opiyo, succumbed to overwhelming intoxication which affected their brains and internal organs.

Opiyo died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while his brother passed away while receiving treatment at the General ward, according to the doctors.

The children, aged between 3 and 9, were stabbed by their father Ronnie Ochieng Nyore at their home in East Kochia following a domestic wrangle. The father then died by suicide.

Authorities said preliminary findings had shown he stabbed two of the children in the stomach using a kitchen knife after he allegedly tried to poison them with Triatix which is used in controlling ticks in livestock.

Police who visited the scene found an empty bottle of a pesticide which they believed was used by the deceased to take away his life after poisoning his children before stabbing them using a kitchen knife.

Homabay police boss Samson Kine said the deceased locked himself in his rental house in Nyagoro Center together with the four children where he poisoned and stabbed them before committing suicide by consuming the pesticide.
