NAROK, Kenya, Dec 14 – A police officer is among five people who were arrested for impersonating Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) staff in Narok.
Davies Simiyu Musuundi, who is attached to the Kikuyu Police station was arrested alongside, Leah Wanjiku Kamau, Thomas Mwangi Kinyanjui, David Chege Mwangi and Ann Wagio Kamando.
A Police report shows that a KRA staff identified as Soy Robert who is attached to Narok received a report that several wines and spirits shops within Narok town had been visited by people who alleged that they work for the tax authority.
The five who had KRA identification cards are said to have accused proprietors of failing to issue ETR, Tax invoices to customers and selling products with fake excise stamps.
They are said to have demanded money from the traders and when their wishes were not granted, they issued them with seizure notices from KRA.
Police say that the police officer, Davis Simiyu, is facing three court cases for the offences of impersonating KRA officials in Nakuru Law Courts and two others in Milimani Law Courts.
Police recovered assorted ATM cards, seizure notices, KRA stamps, and KRA staff badges.
