EAST POKOT, Kenya, Dec 15 – Police have launched a manhunt for five suspects who escaped from custody in East Pokot.
The five who were among 17 being held at the station cells for various crimes, confronted three officers who were providing security overcoming them and breaking out in the process.
The five are Apura Akapil Lokilekwang, Rut Kases, Lorangi Domokwang, Amanat Makal and Sekra Nameri.
Police said that the incident happened on Tuesday when a headcount was being conducted, and one of the officers sustained a deep cut on the head. He was treated at the Chemolingot Sub-County hospital and discharged.
Police say that those who escaped from custody had been charged with rape and defilement.
Police are now calling on the locals to provide them with any information that may lead to their capture.
