KISII, Kenya, Dec 20 – Pasifica Nyakerario aunt to Baby Sagini Junior and one of the key suspects in the case the minor’s eyes were gouged out was arraigned in court today.
She appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Ogweno, where the prosecution sought more time for police to conclude investigations into the matter.
Three-year-old Sagini Junior, had his eyes gouged out on December 13, by Nyakerario and her son Alex Maina Ochogo, the other key suspect in the case, in Marani, Kisii County. Detectives say that Ochogo then escorted his mother to board a Nairobi bound bas after the two committed heinous act.
Nyakerario was arrested on Monday in Kasarani area before she was transferred to Kisii Police Station.
Prosecutor Hilary Kaino told the court that Nyakerario and Ochogo were the last people seen with baby Sagini before she travelled to Nairobi.
“We ask the court to detain the suspect at Rioma Police Station to help the detectives conclude the investigations,” said Kaino.
In her submissions, Nyakerario told the court, that she had travelled to Nairobi before the incident took place to see her children who reside there and that by the time she left home, everything was well. She agreed to cooperate with the investigators.
Nyakerario and Ochogo will be detained at Rioma Police Station and will be brought back to court on December 23.
“Considering the oral submissions from Mr Kaino you will be detained at Rioma Police Station for four days as detectives conclude investigations and you will appear in this court on the 23rd for further directions depending on the outcome of the investigations,” said SRM Ogweno.
The Magistrate ordered the OCS at the station to provide her with security for the four days she will be in custody.
Meanwhile, Sagini’s father was arrested and detained at the same station as detectives continue with investigations over allegations that he defiled Sagini’s elder sister.
