NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 13 – The National Police Service has released the profiles of five suspects wanted for connections with the Somali-based Al Shabaab terror group.
The Police are appealing to Kenyans to volunteer information that may lead to their arrest.
This comes in the wake of several terror attacks in Garissa and Lamu counties adding that the five men are linked to previous attacks.
The five are:
Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir aka Ikrima
According to the DCI, Ikrima is a close associate to Al-Shabaab’s top leaders and previously worked under Harun Fazul, Abdi Godane, Salim Saleh Swaleh Nabhan, Al-Shabaab former leaders. Ikrima who holds Somalia and Norway Citizenship is believed to have coordinated attacks on countries within the horn of Africa. They say that he is directly associated with the 2010 Kampala attack in Uganda as well as the West Gate and Dusit attacks in Kenya respectively.
Ramadhan Kioko Aka Pinji ak Abu Nuseiba
Kioki is a Kenyan from Majengo area in Nairobi who was recruited into violent extremism by AHMED IMAN, a former Al-Shabaab leader responsible for propaganda and recruitment of Kenyan youth from Nairobi’s Majengo area. Police say that he joined Al-Shabaab in 2008 and is currently a Jaysh Ayman group member.
Police also believe that he was part of the team that conducted attacks on Baure security camp in June 2015 within Lamu County. He is also part of the team deployed to carry out recent attacks in the Boni enclave targeting the LAPSSET corridor and security installations.
Abdullahi Bulati aka Abdullahi Banati aka Mustafa
According to Police, Abdullahi is a commander of Al Shabaab militants deployed to the expansive Boni forest that straddles Garissa and Lamu counties in Kenya and Somalia.
Police believe that Banati, who hails from Ngumu Village within Tana River County is linked with numerous criminal and terror activities including poaching, and mining/supplying IEDs that are used to mine routes connecting Lamu and Garissa counties.
Maalim Ayman
Police say that Maalim Ayman is the head of the Al Shabaab’s Jaysh Ayman wing that operates within the Lacta belt area.
They say that Jaysh Ayman is responsible for attacks within the BONI enclave including the Baure and Mpeketoni attacks as well as the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) attacks along the routes within the LAPSSET corridor connecting Garissa and Lamu counties.
He is also linked to the Manda Bay Airfield attack of 2020 and the US government has set Sh1.2 billion bounty for information leading to his arrest.
Mohamud Abdi Aden aka Mohamed Yare
Police say that Mohamed Yare was a resident of Garissa and Nairobi’s Fedha Estate before travelling to join Al-Shabaab in 2013. He is linked to the previous foiled attacks in the country before his arrest in 2014 for collecting information to facilitate attacks in Nairobi.
He was released in 2017 and Police believe he thereafter travelled back to Somalia to continue with terrorist activities and is among the team that is coordinating attacks in the Boni enclave.
