NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 17 – Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairperson Archbishop Eliud Wabukala has retired.
EACC boss Twalib Mbarak in a statement to newsrooms said that Wabukala’s last day at the graft agency was Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
“On behalf of the Commissioners, Executive Management and Staff of EACC, I thank the outgoing chairperson for the focused and steady leadership that he provided to the commission in the last six years,” the statement reads.
He said that Wabukala helped shape strategic and policy direction at the agency. He added that this had resulted in significant milestones in the fight against corruption as well as in the promotion of ethics in the country.
According to Mbarak, Wabukala left a stable, professional and reliable agency that he says is committed to effectively discharging its mandate.
Wabukala joined EACC, following his appointment by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on January 18, 2022, replacing Philip Kinisu who had resigned on August 2016.
Kinisu resigned after Parliaments Justice and Legal Affairs Committee recommended his removal after his name was adversely mentioned in the National Youth Service scandal.
Kinisu denied the allegations saying that he had resigned from the company Esaki Limited which was being investigated for corrupt dealings.
