NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 28 – Former Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i left the country on February 19, 2023, the Immigration Department has said.
In a letter addressed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Emmanuel Simiyu the Immigration Director-General says that Matiang’i left just 10 days after a claim that police attempted to raid his Karen home to arrest him.
“The subject departed on February 19, 2023, through JKIA on KLM flight number KL566,” says Simiyu.
This comes after Matiang’i failed to honour the summons by the DCI to appear before investigators on Friday last week.
His lawyer Danstun Omari said that the summon letter was not signed questioning its credibility, he however said that his client was ready to answer any questions from the DCI.
Matiang’i was summoned after his lawyers claimed there was an attempt to break into his Karen home to arrest him.
The lawyers went to court and obtained anticipatory bail and orders barring DCI from arresting him but Matiang’i was to cooperate with investigators.
Danstun Omari was then summoned by the DCI and he went to court where he obtained orders suspending the summons until his case is heard and determined.
The DCI went to court seeking orders to obtain CCTV footage from the home of Matiang’i on the night of February 8 and 9 as part of their investigation into the claim.
DCI failed to secure the orders from Milimani Law Courts but got them from the Makadara Law Courts which they used to break into the home on February 15.
