NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 2 – President William Ruto has announced that the government will subsidise the cost of gas to retail between Sh300-Sh500 from June.
Ruto who was speaking during the International Women’s Day held at KICC said that when gas is made accessible to all it will discourage the use of charcoal and firewood which poses a risk to health and the environment.
Ruto said that the eight per cent VAT levied on gas would be removed which he said will reduce the prices significantly.
He said the move by his administration is part of its plan to increase the use of clean energy and move away from dirty fuels.
The President warned those who are selling and filling faulty gas cylinders that they will be dealt with according to the law.
He declared that a multiagency approach will be applied in the fight to eliminate any gas refillers who have not registered their businesses with the government.
