NAKURU, Kenya, Feb 2 – A Naivasha teacher who confessed to killing her four children by strangling them in 2020 has been sentenced to life in prison.
Beatrice Mwende, a Mathematics teacher, claimed that she had been possessed by a demon when she killed her three daughters and son.
Her victims are Melody Warigia (8 years old), Willy Macharia (6 years old), Samantha Njeri (4 years old) and Whitney Nyambura (2 years old).
She put up the same defense in court but Naivasha High Court Judge Grace Nzioka dismissed it saying that a medical report showed that she was of sound mind.
“Her excuse that she was possessed by some evil spirits when she committed the act, cannot be authenticated in court. She is, therefore, sentenced to life imprisonment,” Justice Nzioka said in her judgement.
Mwende, 44, had denied the charges but later confessed to committing the act on June 26, 2020, in Kabati Estate, Naivasha after consultations with her lawyer.
