NAIROBI Kenya, April 27 -Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Thursday arrested a Kenya Railways Corporation Security official for allegedly soliciting a Sh500,000 bribe.

Stanley Omondi Oduor based at Voi Railways Station was arrested at Ambassador Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday after he received from the complainant Sh200,000 as part of the bribe.

The official had demanded the bribe in order to allow the complainant continue with an ongoing construction on Voi Railways land, which he has leased.

“The suspect was traced and arrested immediately after he received Sh200,000 from the complainant. He had travelled from Voi to Nairobi,” EACC said.

According to the complainant, he is constructing a one storey building for a women empowerment project funded by German Donors in Voi.

The project is being constructed at the Taveta Railways Grounds with the approval of the former Voi Town Clerk who leased the plot for that purpose.

The construction begun in 2019 after the approval by the County Government of Taita Taveta.

However, the suspect is alleged to have visited the site and informed the complainant that the construction documents were not in order, he then demanded a bribe in order to allow the complainant to continue with the construction.

The suspect was taken to Central police station before being transferred to Kilimani station.

On Friday, he was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail and is expected to appear in court on May 2.
