KDF Soldier Arrested, Colleague Sought Over Murder of Police Officer

MERU Kenya, May 21 -A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was on Sunday May 21 arrested over the death of a Police officer in the neighbouring Tharaka Nithi County.

Senior Private Brian Kinyua Mawira attached to the 76 Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion (76 ARB) in Gilgil was arrested in Meru just a day after the brutal attack.

The deceased officer has been identified as Dennis Gitonga Machuira, a police officer based at the Central police station, Nairobi.

Another soldier, Morris Muriuki based at the Laikipia Airbase in Nanyuki and another suspect are being sought after preliminary investigations linked them to the murder of the officer at Kirubia in Tharaka Nithi.

David Gitare, a brother to the deceased, reported at Chuka Police Station that his brother had been attacked by the three people while at a bar in Kirubia.

Reports indicate the deceased had travelled to attend a welfare meeting back at his rural home when he was attacked at Saturday at around 11pm.

He was rushed to Chuka Referral Hospital but died while being treated.
