NAIROBI Kenya May 29 -A multi-agency team tasked with fighting corruption in the country has been formed.
During a consultative meeting chaired by the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on Monday May 29, the agencies came up with a stringent collaborative working partnership to curb the vice.
This follows President William Ruto’s renewed directive to fight corruption in the country.
“We are all in agreement that this menace need be slayed. Nobody will be protected or victimized in this fight,” he said.
Koskei said the President had directed him to improve governance and ensure zero tolerance to corruption.
“It is the President’s desire and he has directed we strengthen our role without fear or favour while doing our jobs,” he said adding that no form of corruption will be tolerated in any of the government ranks.
“We want clear personal responsibility as President has directed. This will be the new approach in town,” he added.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the nominated spymaster Noordin Haji said proper investigations and cooperation was the only way to ensure successful prosecution.
Haji said his work was made difficult by the former Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti, saying he had evidence on how junior investigation officers were directed to sabotage his work as the DPP.
“Corruption has become systematic. We will only succeed if we respect the Constitution and work in accordance with the law,” Haji said.
The DCI Mohammed Amin said his office was working closely with the office of the DPP to ensure successful investigation and prosecution of cases.
Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakan’go requested for additional staff to the counties, noting that only one officer is currently based in each county.
Nyakan’go revealed that many counties were misappropriating funds through paying of imprest through corporations not guided by the law.
The consultative meeting was also attended by the chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Antony Muchiri who called for proper audit of all public servants.
“Training and monitoring all accounting officers is crucial in ensuring internal control measures,” he said.
