    Police officer arrested after demanding Sh5,000 bribe from bodaboda operator

    MERU Kenya June 16 -A police officer based at Mutuati Police Station in Meru County was arrested on Thursday after receiving a bribe of Sh5000. The officer, identified as George Waweru Kagia, was nabbed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruptions (EACC) officers from Isiolo.

    He is accused of receiving the bribe to release a motorcycle detained at the station for not having a number plate. The suspect was booked at Ruiru Police Station but later released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 pending an appearance on June 17 before Isiolo Anti-Corruption Court.

    The police officer’s arrest comes as the EACC intensifies its operation against corrupt government officers.
    Four traffic police officers were on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers while they were extorting motorists plying the Outering Road in Nairobi.
    The EACC detectives arrested the rogue cops at Kware stage near the Pipeline estate when they were receiving bribes from motorists.

    A day later, Roysambu Assistant County Commissioner and her agent were on June 14 arrested she demanded a bribe of Sh50,000 from a Mathare Slum resident in order to return to him construction materials that had been confiscated.

    EACC officials said Mercy Kavoi and her agent David Musyoki had demanded the money before returning the materials which had been taken away after demolishing the complainant’s Mabati structure, claiming that it was illegally constructed on a road reserve.
