NYANDARUA, Kenya June 22 -A police officer on the doorstep of retiring was on June 22 brutally murdered in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County in a suspected love triangle.

The body of Corporal Joseph Kahungu Wambugu was found lying in a pool of blood at Turasha shopping centre where he had gone to buy cigarettes at around 7am.

According to the National Police Service headquarters, the deceased, who joined the service in 1983, was set to retire on October 24, 2023.

The body had multiple deep cuts on the face, neck and left shoulder. His right hand was chopped off at the wrist and his right leg was also chopped off from the ankle joint.

Members of the public informed the police who rushed to the scene and rushed him to the nearby Turasha dispensary but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations established that the deceased left the police staff quarters to buy cigarettes when he was confronted by John Thiong’o Kinyanjui.

The Kipipiri Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said they had launched investigations and arrested the suspect’s former wife who is assisting with investigations.

“The motive of the murder is suspected to be love triangle. A woman identified as Tabitha Wanjira Thiongo, the suspects estranged wife, was arrested for interrogation,” the local DCI boss said.
