NAIROBI Kenya, June 23 -The government has launched a Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) self-service App, a user-friendly mobile application that will provide businesses, consumers, and stakeholders with a convenient platform to access information on standards, regulations, and certification processes.

The Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said the App will curb corruption and enhance efficiency as it will minimize human interventions in the organisation’s operations.

“The KEBS App will now facilitate an interactive interface for customers to apply for marks of quality, verify the conformity of products and eligibility of staff members as well as make real-time enquiries and give feedback on KEBS services,” he said.

The app, which was launched on Friday June 23, aims to streamline and enhance the experience of engaging with KEBS services and facilitating efficient trade.

It will also ensure adherence to quality standards to continue to strengthen its Wajibika Na KEBS initiative, a program that allows the public to report cases of substandard products.

The application is already up and running in Google Playstore and it is free to download.

Koskei urged KEBS to review its standardisation criteria used to disqualify and discourage young hustlers from establishing manufacturing and cottage industries as he called on government institutions to stop outsourcing services that their employees can discharge.

“These industries are meant to provide increased employment opportunities for the hustler nation and provide additional tax revenue, which will then be committed to the task of nation-building,” he noted.

KEBS acting Managing Director Esther Ngari added that the App will improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in KEBS processes.

“We are on a digital transformation journey through the improvement of our ICT infrastructure that will lead to enterprise-wide digitization,” she said.
