NAIROBI Kenya June 27 -A man who robbed a pedestrian of Sh2000 and two mobile phones along Outering Road in Nairobi was arrested few minutes later by police officers who were on routine patrol.
Sammy Odhiambo together with his accomplice who is still at large confronted Simon Maina on Sunday June 25 and robbed him of his Nokia 315 worth Sh12, 000 and a Tecno T313 valued at Sh1, 500.
Odhiambo was on June 27 charged in court with robbery and handling stolen property at the Makadara Law courts.
The court was told that Maina was walking home after work when he was accosted by two men armed with knives who grabbed him and searched him while threatening to stab him.
The suspects stole his two phones and Sh2000 during the incident that happened at around 7pm.
The two suspects continued walking ahead of him after robbing him and a few metres, he found Odhiambo who was one of them having been coincidentally arrested by police officers who were on patrol along the highway.
He informed the police officers that the person they were holding for interrogations was among two men who had just robbed him of his two phones and cash.
The officers searched him and recovered Maina’s phone and a knife hidden in his socks.
The officers then escorted Odhiambo to Buruburu police station where Maina made a report and recorded a statement over the robbery. The phone and knife were kept as exhibits in the case.
Odhiambo on Tuesday denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Gerald Mutiso of the Makadara Law Courts.
He was released on a bond of Sh100, 000 with a surety of a similar amount. The case will be mentioned on July 26 for a pretrial and fixing of hearing dates.
