NAIROBI Kenya July 3 -Two women have been charged with administering stupefying or overpowering drugs to a patron in a club in Githurai 44 on July 1.
Jennifer Wanjiku Kamau, 45 and Lydia Waithera Maina 37, were on July 3 charged at the Makadara Law Courts with administering the unknown drug to Peter Swakei and denied the charges.
The accused persons were arrested by members of the public after Swakei, who they had followed into a bar, was found unconscious while seated between them.
They were rescued from a lynch mob by the police officers on patrol after they were cornered immediately after allegedly drugging the man they wanted to steal from.
Police found them with tablets of unknown drugs during a search at the time of arrest. They then rushed the man to a hospital in Kasarani where he was treated and discharged after regaining consciousness.
The court was further told that the have been handed over to the government chemist for analysis.
The two women had earlier found Swakei taking drinks at a club and joined him on his table.
He bought them beer and left them there for another club. The women however hired a rider to follow him to where he had gone.
They joined him at the table but a hawk-eyed security guard at the club noticed that Swakei had blacked out shortly after the two joined him.
They were ejected from the club and were accosted by members of the public but police officers on patrol arrived in the nick of time.
The two suspects denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Lewis Gatheru of Makadara Law Courts and pleaded for lenient bail and bond terms claiming they have children who solely depend on them.
They were then released on a bond of Sh300, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh200, 000.
The hearing of the case starts on November 22, 2023.
