TURKANA Kenya, July 9 -A man was arrested after he attempted to sell an illegal firearm to an undercover police officer in Turkana county on Sunday, July 9.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives arrested Moses Lokisha, 24, who landed in police net after a potential buyer of the AK47 rifle he was selling turned out to be an undercover officer.
The arrest followed a stealth operation launched by the area No Guns for Gangs operators, after several cases of armed robberies were reported in the area.
“Two accomplices of the main suspect managed to escape after sighting a backup squad of fellow detectives, but not without a chase,” the DCI said.
Lokisha, however, was cornered and the firearm he intended to sell confiscated.
The DCI has warned that no effort will be spared in dealing with cases of armed robberies, with perpetrators being met with an even greater force.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Monday, July 10 to answer to appropriate charges.
On Saturday July 8, a multi-agency security team also recovered another AK47 rifle at Moruanze village, Paka location in Tiaty East, Baringo County.
“We laud the local peace elders, leaders and the public at large for their continued support which has so far led to the recovery of several firearms in the ongoing Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift,” the National Police Service spokesperson Dr Resila Onyango said.
