Police are investigating the discovery of industrial explosives at a bus stop in Kamukunji area, Nairobi.
The cargo was found along Kumasi Road, outside a bus booking office, police said.
It remained unclear whether the cargo had arrived or was to be sent at the time police on patrol found it on Friday afternoon.
Police officer on patrol in the area noticed a suspicious mass package that was unattended.
They sought to know the owners but none came forward. The bus management denied knowledge of the same.
Upon inspection of the cartons, the officers established that the items concealed therein were explosives which were yet to be assembled.
The recovered items were taken to Kamukunji police station and Bomb disposal unit informed for further examination.
The consignment had five boxes of detonation codes containing 20 rolls, 4480 pieces of water held in 28 boxes and 1,250 pieces of cap detonators in 50 packets.
Such explosives are used at quarries but can be deadly if mishandled.
The same can be used to assemble deadly explosives.
Many companies engaged in quarry activities are permitted to import explosive materials for their work.
It is suspected the materials were to be used by terrorists in their activities.
