Police in Kisii on Friday arrested a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) pastor in connection of alleged child trafficking of ten children from Marsabit County to Kisii.
This is after residents in Kisii town raised an alarm when the children aged between five to ten years were booked in a guest room with two men who had accompanied them.
Police officers arrested the two men who had accompanied the minors.
An SDA pastor who was linked to the transportation of the children was also arrested and taken in for questioning.
Kisii County police commander Charles Kasses confirmed the incident and said they have launched instigation over the matter.
“The two men who accompanied these children had their kids among the ten who were rescued, these parents say they were taking the kids for sponsorship in an orphanage in Kenyenya sub-county but we are trying to confirm this,” said Kasses.
Meanwhile, DCI officers have gone to Kenyenya to investigate the said orphanage and the procedures in sponsoring these children.
Rigena Human Rights activists have condemned the incident and asked the police to conduct investigation and ensure these children are safe.
“We would like to ask the police officers to take the children for medication to ensure their health is well,” said Osoro.
He noted that there are so many loopholes in this incident making them conclude the sponsorship exercise is questionable.
Omobera SDA Conference chief pastor James Ondabu has since denied the allegations of sponsorship from the church and said they are going to take legal actions against defamation.
“We don’t have an orphanage in this church and we don’t have plans to build one soon,” he said
