TRANS NZOIA Kenya January 9 -The police oversight authority on Tuesday launched investigations into the death of two men following an attack by National Police Service reservists in Endebess, Trans Nzoia county.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) chairperson Ann Makori has said they have deployed a rapid investigation team from its Eldoret Regional Office to initiate investigations into the deaths.
“It is alleged that two men lost their lives at the hands of National Police Service Reservists at a farmer’s cooperative society in Endebess Constituency in Trans Nzoia County on January 8,” Makori said.
The authority said several others were also injured in the shooting incident.
“Upon conclusion of the investigations and pursuant to Section 6(a) of the IPOA Act, the Authority will make recommendations, including prosecution if criminal culpability is established on the part of the police reservists involved,” she added.
According to police regulations, officers should always attempt to use non-violent means first, and if force is to be used, it must be proportional to the objective to be achieved, the seriousness of the offence, and the resistance of the person against whom it is used.
