NAIROBI Kenya January 19 -The woman who had earlier been reported as having died by suicide by jumping from the third floor of an apartment in Langata was actually murdered before her body was thrown out of the window.
A probe by the police postmortem report revealed that the cause of Nelvine Museti’s death was a head injury caused by blunt force trauma.
It had been presumed that Museti, 28, had jumped from the third floor of Ascot apartment after her body was found outside with blood oozing from her nose.
Neighbours had heard a thud at around 5am before the body was found at around 6am on January 11.
Police officers visited the scene after the incident was reported by the caretaker of the building.
The detectives later proceeded to Museti’s house which was not locked and found it disorganized, and the balcony door open.
In an affidavit filed at the Kibera law courts, detective Johnson Wanjohi of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Langata offices stated that police recovered exhibits including used condoms, an indication that Museti was in company of a man the previous night.
Other items recovered at the house include an empty beer bottle, two glasses containing substance suspected to be alcohol, bhang and a half full -two – litres bottle containing a beverage.
“Preliminary investigations were conducted and established that on the night of the incident, the deceased was in company of a man in her house where they consumed the drinks found on the table and had sexual intercourse as evidenced by the presence of used condoms,” stated Wanjohi.
Some of the items have been forwarded to the Government Chemist for toxicology and DNA analysis, according to the DCI.
Detectives are now investigating a case of murder.
The DCI forensics investigations led to the arrest of a police officer, Constable Victor Otieno Ouma, attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi.
“Today the 18th January 2024, Langata DCI officers arrested Service number 114270 Police Constable Victor Otieno Ouma based at GSU headquarters, E-Company attached to sports for the offence of Murder c/section 203 as read with 204 of the penal code,” a police report seen by Shahidi News reads.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Langata police station after Wanjohi obtained orders to detain him for 21 days. The orders were granted by Senior Principal Magistrate Irene Kahuya.
DCI’s forensic analysis of Ms Museti’s mobile phone call logs and text messages led to the arrest of Constable Ouma as a suspect in the murder.
