NAIROBI Kenya February 28 -Two police officers based at Merti police station were arrested for demanding a bribe of Sh50,000 from a suspect they had arrested for allegedly being a member of the outlawed Al-Shabaab terror group as a condition for releasing him.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Tuesday said officers David Irungu and Hassan Liban Hassan also robbed the suspect of an additional Sh57,000.
“The police officers, while armed with a rifle, frisked the complainant and robbed him of an additional Sh57,000,” EACC said.
