MACHAKOS, Kenya, Oct 27- Gunshots were fired in a confrontation between police and revelers at a club in Mlolongo area, Machakos County.
More than 50 revelers were arrested in the police operation on the for flouting Covid-19 pandemic rules.
During the confrontation, the Machakos county police commander Isa Mohamed and his driver were roughed up as they tried to get into the club to check what was happening.
The officers were on patrol at 3 am Monday when they realized the club was operating contrary to Covid-19 pandemic rules.
It was then that they tried to get there that the bouncers roughed them, witnesses said.
It forced the county commander to shoot to the air before he called for reinforcement to have the revelers arrested.
The two bouncers who roughed up the officers were also arrested.
They were Tuesday expected in court to face various charges including robbery with violence.
Covid rules including a night curfew are still in force.
Bars and restaurants are supposed to be closed daily by 11pm.
These are part of the efforts being put in place to contain the spread of the pandemic.
Police have been staging operations to address the incidents of breaking of the rules hence arresting dozens.
