NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29- The National Youth Service (NYS) is set to embark on a national wide programme that will see 1.4 million boda boda riders trained on road safety.
Lined up for the riders is also how to offer basic first aid and importantly, road courtesy.
The new plan was announced by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru on Thursday, during a meeting with various leaders from the expansive sector.
“The training will be conducted for the next a few months,” the ICT CS said.
A boda boda rider will part with Sh750 to be trained by NYS.According to the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA), hundreds of boda boda riders are killed annually through road accidents.
Past attempts to reform the sector have been futile.
