BUNGOMA, Kenya, Oct 31- A 16 year old boy from Lugari Village in Kakamega County has died after he drowned in River Kuywa.
The deceased and his two friends had gone swimming in the river, when the boy was swept away by the waters.
According to the boy’s mother, Pamela Masafu, her son’s friends revealed that he was having a great time when incident happened.
“We discovered that he was missing around noon. His friend who was with him told us he jumped into the water the first time and came out. He did it a second and third time. However, on his last jump, he did not come out,” she said.
Attempts by the friends to rescue him were futile.
Area sub-chief Bramwel Juma Kachelo has cautioned parents against leaving their children unattended to avert further calamities more so now when schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I urge parents to be extra vigilant and know where their children are at all times. The should not just let the children roam throughout the day as it may lead to deaths such as this one,” he said.
The search for the teenager’s body is underway.
