NAKURU, Kenya, Nov, 10 – Police on Tuesday arrested nine suspected cocaine traffickers at Bondeni Estate in Nakuru County, following a sting operation.
Acting on a tip off from members of the public, the drug traffickers who are in their early 20s, were operating at one of the houses in Bondeni which has been their centre of operation for quite some time now according to detectives.
Some150 white sachets containing cocaine were seized alongside several kilograms of bhang packed in polythene bags with a street value of more than Sh100, 000.
“The nine are part of a network of drug traffickers who have been operating in the area. Some have even resulted to employing teenagers in peddling drugs in the community,” Eric Wanyonyi, Nakuru East Deputy County Commissioner said.
Their network is believed to be part of a much larger syndicate operating in Nakuru and even Nairobi, often undetected.
Since the onset of the Corona virus, drug related activities along the Rift Valley stretching from the border of Kenya and Uganda have been on the rise according to police.
Drug traffickers are said to be basing their operations in informal neighbourhoods.
“Parents must take an active role in knowing what their children do. They must ensure their children are engaging in constructive acuities since many are not going to school,” Wanyonyi said.
