MARSABIT, Kenya, Dec, 2 – Police Tuesday evening arrested two people transporting 3.5 kilograms of bhang along the Moyale-Marsabit highway, as war on narcotics get heightened.
The bhang was recovered following a search of the vehicle at a road block in Sololo area.
According to an incident report seen by Shahidi News, police suspected something fishy after they realized the rear left tire of the Toyota Fielder had been tampered with.
Upon further inspection, it was established that the tire had been removed and replaced with the spare.
The two, a driver and passenger who are in police custody, had denied engaging in any suspicious activities upon questioning only for the officers drawn from Sololo police station to find 3.5 kilograms of bhang concealed in the tire.
The two are set to be charged in court on Wednesday.
Police have in recent weeks identified the area as a hotspot corridor for the transportation of bhang and other drugs particularly from Somalia.
The National Assembly is in the process of adopting amendments in the narcotic with stringent proposals that might see drug traffickers fined up to Sh50 million.
