NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 9- Drinks and food samples that were taken at an apartment in Elgeyo Marakwet road in Kilimani, the scene where Machakos Senator Boniface Mutinda fell unwell, have shown no poisonous traces.
This is according to impeccable sources who spoke to Shahidi News, over an incident that has elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans and politicians.
The samples were being analyzed by the Government chemist.
Meanwhile, the woman who was with the Senator on that fateful night was on Wednesday released on a personal bond. The incident occurred on December 3.
“She is out but will be required to regularly report to the police station,” a detective privy to the ongoing investigations said.
Police had been granted permission to hold the woman for 7 days on December 4, pending conclusion to the ongoing investigations. She had stayed in police custody for two days.
The Investigating Officer told the court that he was probing an attempted murder.
“I send my Pole’s (sorry) to the Family of the Hon. Senator, Machakos as we pray for his speedy recovery. However, the Rule of Law demands equal treatment for all. A caring lady (from Makueni) who takes a gentleman in distress to hospital cannot be a murderer. She deserves bail and justice,” Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana said in a tweet on Tuesday.
The Machakos Senator is still recuperating at Nairobi hospital.
Police have not indicated whether they will continue pursuing the attempted murder charges against the woman, who is a secondary school teacher.
According to sources, the two have been friends for years and at some point, were in the same University.
The woman is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student.
