NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 19- The Cabinet will go on recess starting December 22, 2020 to January 3, 2021, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua said.
He said the recess will give Cabinet members a scheduled break from weekly meetings and an opportunity to spend the festive season with their families.
“During the recess, scheduled presidential engagements will continue uninterrupted, while the calendar of the National Security Council (NSC) and the National Security Council Advisory Committee (NSAC) will also continue as planned,” Kinyua said in a statement Saturday.
He added the Cabinet and their committees will not have any scheduled engagements unless otherwise directed by the President for urgent business, cases of national emergency, or any other exceptional circumstances.
Cabinet members (excluding those who are members of the National Security Council and National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus) will be allowed to take leave from office, subject to the prior approval of the President, he added.
“Notwithstanding the recess, delivery of government services will continue uninterrupted and at the same service standard.”
The Cabinet usually have such holidays in April, August and December.
The president had last week announced he will be unavailable to ambassadors until January.
