NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec, 30- A man who allegedly snatched a gun from a police officer was Tuesday gunned down in Kayole, Nairobi in dramatic incident.
His accomplice was too killed as he escaped few kilometers away.
Police said the first victim identified as Masood Kimani snatched the firearm from a police officer who was on duty at Bee Centre area prompting a chase and the shooting.
According to police, the officer and his two colleagues were handling an unruly crowd at Bee Centre, when the victim who was a motorbike pillion passenger snatched the firearm.
Detectives were immediately deployed for a chase and search and he was allegedly cornered alongside an accomplice on Spine Road in Kayole.
Police say they challenged the duo to surrender but Masood opened fire and was killed during the exchange.
His accomplice who managed to escape was cornered moments later and killed at Dandora bridge, after he reportedly failed to surrender.
“They were all killed in the drama. We warn the youth to stop engaging in crime,” said Nairobi police boss Rashid Yakub.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary. Crime incidents have been low in the past months and in this festive season.
Police said as compared to the past seasons, this has been the most quiet one.
This is due to the Covid-19 pandemic conditions and other issues that followed.
More officers were deployed to various places to tame any form of insecurity.
