Suspected thug killed as security-enhanced in Nairobi ahead of schools re-opening

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 4- A suspected thug was Sunday night shot dead by police in Mwiki area, Nairobi in a botched robbery.

Police say the suspect was in the company of two others and had tried to rob plainclothes police officers who were in a private car.

The suspects were armed with pistols when they made the said attempt.

Police responded and killed one while the other suspects managed to escape on foot.

The officers told Shahidi News that they recovered a homemade gun and two bullets from the slain suspect and that the body was moved to the mortuary.

Police have enhanced operations in the city ahead of the re-opening of schools where cases of robbery are likely to increase.
