NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 8- Nairobi Police boss Rashid Yakub and former Administration Police Service spokesperson Masoud Mwinyi have been promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG).

The changes were approved by the National Police Service Commission and announced by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.

Mwinyi is currently the head of logistics at the Administration Police Service.

Also promoted to the rank of SAIG are IG’s principal assistant Gideon Munga Nyale, Deputy Director of National Air Support Department (NASD) Rodgers Mbithi, Railways Police commandant Peter Ndung’u and the Director of the Internal Affairs Unit Mohamed Amin.

Others include head of Border Patrol Unit college in Kanyonyo Abdulahi Aden and Director of Personnel at Kenya Police headquarters Boniface Maingi.

More changes are set to be announced according to the National Police Service officials.

Some 20 police officers have been promoted in the newly announced changes.

In changes seen by Shahidi News, several regional commanders were also promoted to the rank of the Assistant Inspector General of police (AIG) in the changes.

They include head of Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nairobi Bernard Nyakwaka and Nyanza regional police commander Karanja Muiruri.

Others are Central’s Augustine Nthumbi and DCI’s Deputy Director of Investigations Bureau Carey Nyawinda.

The service commanders have been operating in acting capacity which in return affected the general command and order.

Further changes are expected as the country approaches next year’s general elections.

To enhance police presence, Chief camps that used to be manned by Administration Police officers are now police stations.
