NAIROBI, Kenya, May 31- Five recruits who used fake academic documents to be enlisted in the National Police Service (NPS) have been arrested while undergoing training.
The five are being held at the Embakasi Police Station awaiting arraignment.
They had already started undergoing basic training at the Embakasi B police campus.
“A cross examination of their documents with the help of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) revealed they’re fake,” a senior police officer involved in the probing told Shahidi News.
The five are among 4,700 police constables who were recruited in February this year, ahead of next year’s General elections, when more officers will be deployed across the country.
National Police Service Commission, chairman, Eliud Kinuthia has assured only those who are qualified will be trained as police officers.
The commission alongside other state and non-state agencies were involved in the recruitment process, to ensure it was fair and transparent.
Among other agency’s included the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
