NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 16- Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Judiciary are exploring ways to expedite delayed anti-corruption cases.
One such proposals is holding of a service month to expedite the hearing of graft cases and judicial review cases.
During the service month, the two institutions also plan to hold community engagements.
Further, the ODPP and Judiciary are seeking to hold a justice week in a bid to decongest prisons.
This was agreed during a meeting between Chief Justice Martha Koome and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
DPP Haji met the Chief Justice under the National Council of the Administration of Justice
“DPP Noordin Haji today called on the CJ Martha Koome to discuss areas of mutual collaboration between the two agencies. The duo pledged to work together under the NCAJ to enhance access to justice to all Kenyans,” the ODPP said in a Tweet.
Kenya loses at least Sh2 billion to corruption according to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Former United States Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter said the country loses at least 30 percent of its budget, which at that time by June 2019 amounted to Sh800 billion.
