NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 16- A three year-old on Wednesday reunited with her family, after 7 days with kidnapers.
The baby, Mitchell Kemunto, had been missing for a week, but was miraculously dropped off near her house by her kidnappers, unharmed.
The incident occurred in Embakasi and the baby was dropped off at Tassia estate, not so far away from her parents home in Pipeline.
Embakasi Police boss Francis Ngugi said the baby was in good health.
“On June 10, 2021, we got a report of a missing child. The report was made by her parents at Kware police station in Embakasi,” he told Shahidi News.
“I am happy to announce that we found the girl with a good Samaritan. The samaritan cooperated with the police after she saw a notice on the missing child on social and mainstream media.”
The good Samaritan said she was left with the baby by a woman she said looked familiar.
The woman was to pick up the baby after a short while, but she never returned.
“We are sure we will arrest the suspect and crackdown on the child theft syndicate in the Sub-County,” he said.
So far, Embakasi police have rescued three missing persons in the last seven months.
Ngugi has urged parents and guardians to take care of their children and immediately report to police once such an incident happens, for immediate action.
Such cases have increased in the country, with the abductors often asking for ransom.
In some cases, like in a recent incident in Kitengela, victims have been killed.
Police headquarters is yet to issue a comprehensive statement on the incidents, including the action taken to curb what is now a growing trend.
