SOLAI, Kenya, Jun 29- The owner of the Solai dam in Nakuru County that burst its banks and killed 48 people in 2018 is dead.
Patel Mansukh Shantilal succumbed to cardiac arrest on Monday, according to his family.
His farm magaer Vinoj Kumar said he was receiving treatment in a Nairobi based hospital.
“He suffered a cardiac arrest,” Kumar told Shahidi News.
His Solai farm is a source of income for more than 1,500 people working there, mostly locals.
“We shall forever remember his generosity to the community,” Solai location chief Charles Kiragu said. “Solai has a lost a key pillar. We shall dearly miss him.”
During the 2018 incident, the raging Patel dam waters swept across three villages of Solai area.
More than 300 people were displaced and acres of land destroyed.
His son is among 7 people who were charged in court with manslaughter. They were all set free by the High Court in Naivasha for lack of evidence.
