NAIVASHA, Kenya, Jun 29- A manhunt has been launched for a gang that killed a truck driver in Naivasha and stole goods worth Sh1.8 million.
Police said the thugs waylaid the driver in Salama area along Mai Mahiu-Naivasha highway.
According to authorities, the driver who initially resisted their attempts to hijack, was smothered to death.
“The thugs wanted to drive the vehicle towards Naivasha but realised that the road had been closed to pave way for the World Rally Championship event,” Naivasha Deputy Police boss Jared Marando told Shahidi News, during a phone interview.
The incident happened on Friday.
The driver was ferrying bales of white flour according to police.
The unknown assailants gained entry to the vehicle through the passenger’s door, which at the point was not properly locked.
His decaying body was found in the trailer just after Mai Mahiu town, with hands tied.
“The trailer was parked by the roadside for three days,” a resident told Shahidi News.
Forensic experts have since dusted the trailer, with hope they will be able to nab those who killed the driver.
