    Francis Ogolla promoted to rank of Lieutenant General and vice Chief of the Defence Forces in new military changes

    NAIROBI,Kenya, July 23 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced several changes in the country’s military that will now see several officers promoted to various senior ranks changing the dynamic of the military leadership hierarchy.

    Top on the list of promotions, Major General Francis Ogolla has been promoted to the rank of  Lieutenant General and appointed the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF)

    Ogolla will deputize Chief of the Defence Forces, General Robert Kibochi. 

    Lieutenant General Ogolla replaces Lieutenant General Franklin Mghalu whose term of service has ended after 40 years.

    Mghalu served as the Vice Chief of the Defense Forces (VCDF) and the commander of the Kenya Navy.

    According to the Kenya Defence Forces Act, The Chief of the Defence Forces, the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces and the Service Commanders shall serve for a single term of four years or retire upon the attaining of the mandatory retirement age, whichever comes first.

    Brigadier John Omenda has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed commander Of the Kenya Air Force.

    In the Kenya Army, Major General Albert Kendagor has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Force Commander AMISOM (Designate)

    Major General Jonah Mwangi has been promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed Chancellor National Defence University Kenya (NDUK).

    Major General William Shume has been appointed Commander Kenya Army.

    In the Kernya Air Force, Major General Mohammed Badi has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

    Badi will continue to serve as the Director General Nairobi Metropolitan Services.

    Brigadier Peter Githinji has been appointed Deputy Commander Kenya Airfare.

    Major General Fatuma Ahmed has been posted to the Kenya Military Academy and appointed commandant.

    Major General Solomon Manambo has been posted to the National Security Industries Directorate (NSID) and appointed Director General.

    Major General Patrick Amogola has been posted to the National Defense university – Kenya and appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Finance.

    Major General  George Owinow has been appointed Director Centre for Security and Strategic Studies and posted to National Defence University – Kenya.

    Major General Perter Njiru has been posted to Defence Staff College and appointed Commandant.

    Major General Martin Ongo’yi has been posted to Kenya Factories Corporation and appointed Managing Director.

    Major General Charles Kahariri has been appointed Commandant, National Defence College.

    Major General Rashid Elmi has been posted to the National Defence University – Kenya and appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Applied Research and Military Strategic Studies.

    Brigadier George Okumu has been posted to Defence Headquarters Operations, Doctrine and Training and appointed Chief of Systems.

    Brigadier Mohammed Iddi has been posted to the Defence Headquarters Inspectorate and appointed Chief of Inspectorate.

    Brigadier Kenneth Dindi has been posted to the National Defence University -Kenya and appointed Chief of Legal.

    Brigadier (Dr) Charles Kingori has been posted to super pool while deployed at the Kenya National Research and Referral Hospital

    Brigadier Joakim Mwamburi posted to Defense staff College and appointed Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor.

    Brigadier Godfrey Buluma has been posted to the Mariakani Garrison and appointed Commandant.

    BrigadierWilly Wesonga has been posted to the National Defence College and appointed Senior Directing Staff Army.

    BrigadierJeremiah Maroko has been posted to Armoured Brigade and appointed Commander.

    Brigadier Juma Mwinyikali has been posted to the National Defence University – Kenya and appointed Director Applied Research and Military Strategic Studies.

    Brigadier Elijah Mwanyika has been posted National Defence University – Kenya and appointed Deputy Director Centre for Security and Strategic Studies.

    BrigadierCharles Mwazighe has been posed to the Defence Headquarters Compensation and Welfare and appointed Chief Compensation and Welfare.

    Brigadier Abdullahi Rashid has been posted to the Kenya Army Corps of Aviation (KACA) and appointed Commander.

    Brigadier Eric Kinuthia has been posted to the National Defence University – Kenya and appointed Director Academic Affairs.

    Brigadier (Dr) Milton Obilo has been posted to the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital and appointed Chief Medical Officer.

    Brigadier Ibrahim Omari has been posted to the National Defence College and appointed Senior Directing Staff Navy.

    Brigadier Thomas Ng’ang’a has been posted to the National Defence University -Kenya and appointed Director Applied Research, Strategy and Policy. 

    The  public Affairs and spokesperson of the of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)Colonel Zipoorah Kioko has proceeded to the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom for Strategic Studies as Lieutenant Colonel Esther Wanjiku has been promoted to the rank of Colonel and replaces her.

    The changes were announced by president Uhuru Kenyatta following recommendations by the Defence Council  which is Chaired by Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Monica Juma.
