NAIROBI,Kenya,July 30 – Local divers in conjunction with the Nairobi Fire Brigade and local police Friday morning retrieved the bodies of two people from an underground water tank in Kamulu Nairobi county.

The incident occurred at around 5am.

According to locals, the two decided to go down the undergroundwater tank with the sole purpose of connecting a water pipe to a generator in order to pump water to adjacent homes in the apartment complex after residents complained of a water shortage.

Minutes into the dive down the water tank, the two could be heard screaming for help according to local residents, saying,”help us, we are dying, please help us quickly,”

Attempts by residents to save the two proved futile as they are said to have started experiencing breathing complications before drowning.

The deceased were aged 30 and 21 years old.

“We managed to retrieve the body of the care taker and the second victim. By the time fire fighters came it was too late unfortunately,” said Dennis Simiyu, local resident.

Concerns had been raised of a possible third individual inside the water tank however police told Shahidi News only 2 people were inside the tank.

“The third person in question was later accounted for.” Said police

The bodies of the deceased have since been taken to the local mortuary.
