MACHAKOS,Kenya,July 30 – A police officer and a civilian aboard a Honda Fit vehicle were this evening killed along the Nairobi-Machakos Highway in Kathome, Machakos county.

A third passenger aboard the vehicle however escaped unhurt during the incident.

According to Machakos County commissioner John Ondego who spoke to Shahidi News shortly after the incident, the slain police officer and two civilians had just departed the Kyumbi shopping center when an unidentified vehicle was trailing them along the highway.

While approaching Kathome area, the unknown assailants blocked their vehicle forcing them to stop abruptly and in turn sprayed their vehicle with bullets.

“One of them is our officer based in Mwala and It seems they were being followed from behind. We really don’t know the reason behind the attack” Said Ondego.

Preliminary reports indicate the two died on the spot after being shot with at least 18 bullets.

The third passenger aboard the vehicle miraculously escaped unhurt.

The vehicle has since been admitted as evidence and impounded at the Machakos police station.

The bodies of the deceased meanwhile are being preserved at the Machakos level 5 hospital mortuary.

The gun men shortly fled after the incident. No arrests have been made.

    Investigations police say are ongoing.
