NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 14- Who wanted to harm Dennis Itumbi, an official at the Deputy President William Ruto’s office?

Was it an assassination attempt or another incident of crime? Did the incident happen?

These are questions detectives at Kasarani police station are trying to find answers for, following the Friday night incident, where Itumbi said his vehicle was shot at, as he sped off.

According to Itumbi’s statement, his car was blocked along Mountain Mall Road as he headed to Red Sport Restaurant at about 8pm to buy food.

He said unknown people on a Subaru car blocked his way and on sensing danger, Itumbi told police that he decided to drive past them.

It was at this point the self-declared Hustlers Nation spokesperson heard gunshots.

“He was very shaken last night and he is even now. He has to review his movement and security,” a close friend of Itumbi told Shahidi News.

United Democratic Alliance spokesperson Wanjohi Githae, who is also a friend of Itumbi said it was an assassination attempt.

“There has been an assassination attempt on Dennis Itumbi shortly after 8pm this evening. Thank God he is safe. Mungu,” he said in a post on his Facebook post.

Githae however wondered how the police went to the scene without Itumbi, “if at all the did.”

“I have seen the police signal and though it largely captures the events I am left wondering when did they visit the scene to attest that there were no cartridges. If they did visit the scene who took them there because Dennis Itumbi definitely did not do it? If they visited the scene unaccompanied by the complainant, then that’s grossly unprofessional,” he told Shahidi News.

Kasarani Police boss Peter Mwanzo told Shahidi News that detectives were to move to the scene of the incident on Saturday alongside Itumbi.

On Friday night when the alleged incident happened, police said there were no cartridges found.

“We want to establish the truth,” he said. “We also want to see whether there are CCTV cameras around the place so that we can see what transpired.”

Police said Itumbi’s Mercedes car was slightly damaged at bumper. It was towed to the Kasarani police station.

Itumbi is known for leading aggressive campaigns for the Deputy President on social media and often leaking what many say is sensitive information to the public.

Have never broken bread with Dennis Itumbi but fact that he has inside information from top echelons of the Executive or Judiciary & indeed even from Intelligence Agencies is evident of how the SYSTEM is Broken & Useless. How they’ve been unable to stop the leakage is Treachery.

He was a key social media influencer for President Uhuru Kenyatta before he was removed as a State House Director of Innovations.

He moved with the Deputy President, who has equally fell apart with the President.
