NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 18- More security officers have been deployed to Kasarani area over the ongoing World Athletics Under-20 Championships.
The event was officially opened on Tuesday night by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta who is also the patron of the World Junior event.
Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai has said that a large number of officers have been deployed in the stadium and the surroundings to ensure law and order.
“We have deployed a good number of officers from all sectors because we are hosting a world event and we want an incident-free event. That is why we have mobilized a whole team to make sure all is well,” he said during an interview with Shahidi News.
Some 1,000 athletes from 100 countries are participating in the event that will run for five days and being a spectator-free event, there were no lively scenes to be witnessed due to the pandemic.
