NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 3- Top police commanders concluded a two-day meeting in Nairobi to discuss their preparedness for the 2022 national elections.
The meeting, which ended Friday also discussed strategies to streamline traffic operations, how police are implementing the COVID-19 pandemic containment measures and how they can improve the public partnership.
Those present said the group also discussed mentorship and welfare of the junior police and psychosocial support for police.
Mutyambai had summoned the meeting together with Deputy Inspector General of Kenya police Edward Mbugua, all regional and county commanders, and officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority at the Police Pavilion in Nairobi.
Mutyambai told the police commanders to be strict and firm in implementing the Covid-19 pandemic containment measures without fear.
He said lack or failure to ensure compliance has affected many businesses negatively because of the spread of the disease.
Compliance was cited as the weakest link in the fight against the disease even as the commanders blamed politicians for the same.
Police were told to ensure no one is spared in implementing the protocols.
The meeting was among many planned to plan for the period ahead of the 2022 general elections and other operations.
There are also concerns that a number of police officers are suffering from psychosocial issues which are affecting the service’s image at large.
