Administration Of Pfizer Vaccine To Be Delayed Due To Lack Of Syringes

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 1 – The administration of the pfizer vaccine in Kenya is set to be delayed after the Ministry of Health revealed that the syringes required to facilitate the jab are yet to be delivered.

The health ministry said that a specialized dead space syringe is required and suitable in the inoculation of those seeking to receive the vaccine type.

The first batch of the Pfizer vaccine syringes is however expected to arrive in the country on Saturday with the second and third lot set to arrive on Sunday and Monday respectively.

At least 2.2 million specialized syringes are expected in the country.

Pfizer is among five vaccines authorised vaccines for use in the country alongside AstraZeneca/Covishield, Pfizer, Moderna, Sinopharm as well as the Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

“The National accelerated Covid-19 vaccination campaign is set for a boost with the administration of the Pfizer vaccine set to begin next week,” read a tweet from the Ministry of Health.

The country recently received one million Pfizer vaccine doses from the United States of America Government as Kenyans continue to be encouraged to receive the vital jab.

Kenya had administered 3,761,876 doses (As of Thursday, 30, November) with 2,856,972 being first doses while the second doses were 904,904 representing 3.3 percent of the country’s entire adult population.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the government is targeting to vaccinate at least 5.8 million people by Mashujaa Day.
