NAIROBI,Kenya, Oct, 14 – Investigating Officers probing the suspicious escape from jail by suspected children serial killer Masten Wanjala have filed an application seeking to detain three police officers that have been accused of aiding his escape.
The three include, Inspector of Police Philip Mbithi, Police Constable Kamakia Mutuma Boniface and Police Constable Precious Mwende Mwinziall attached at the Jogoo Road Police Station.
In an a affidavit filed by investigating officer, chief Inspector Wanga Masake, the state is seeking to detain the suspects for 14 days in order to complete investigations.
In the application, the officers are accused of aiding a prisoner (Masten Wanjala) to escape contrary of Section 124 (a) of the Penal Code Chapter 63 Laws of Kenya.
They are further accussed of neglecting to prevent the escape of the suspect, a self confessed serial murder suspect – A duty that they were bound to perform under the National Police Service Act.
The offence is said to have occurred on the night of 12 and 13 October, 2021 with the suspect still at large.
The investigating officer in the application said that the suspects should they be released and allowed to go back to their station, could possibly interfere with the investigations.
The officers further revealed that they have been left ‘handicapped’ by the incident and can not complete investigations on the suspected serial killer who is facing 13 counts of murder.
The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions(ODPP) had also recommended that the suspects be detained for 14 days in order to facilitate further investigations.
Prior to his suspicious escape from police custody at the Jogoo Road police Station in Nairobi that is now riddled in absolute mystery, self confessed children serial killer Masten Wanjala had spent at least 30 days in police custody after homicide detectives were granted an application to detain him amidst investigations into the horrific killing of at least 13 minors.
Wednesday 13,2021, his day of reckoning had apparently come with the suspect finally set to be arraigned in order to take plea where he was facing 13 counts of murder charges.
Fast forward to Wednesday morning and a routine roll call at around 7am by officers on duty at the station revealed that the suspect was ‘unaccounted for’ and glaringly missing.
Concerned officers immediately went into panic mode running through the station and even visiting the holding cells but Wanjala could not be found.
“They informed the deputy OCS who informed the OCPD Buruburu and raised alarm and the area was combed in order to rearrest the prisoner,” read a section of the police report.
Wanjala who has killed a total of 12 people confessed to have sodomised and sucked the blood of his victims before killing them.
Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) upon confession by the suspect visited several crime scenes in Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and Bungoma where they recovered bodies of slain minions.
Sleuths also launched investigations against several suspects belied to have aided Wanjala in the gruesome killings.
The suspect was arrested after police tracked down his mobile phone in Kitengela Township on July 13 – said to have been used to solicit for ransom money after abducting two children in Marengo area of Nairobi County.
A nationwide search has been kicked off with police now in pursuit of the suspected serial killer.
