ELGEYO Marakwet, Kenya, Oct 16- Tension is high in a village in Elgeyo Marakwet, where a mother and her two children were killed in a banditry attack.
A fourth person was also killed during the Friday evening incidents.
The attacks, police told Shahidi News, occurred in Ngachar village. The fourth person, an agricultural officer was shot dead along Kapkobil-Tot road.
“He was riding his motorbike while heading home,” a witness told Shahidi News.
Police have launched a manhunt operation for the bandits.
According to an incident report seen by Shahidi News, the mother and her two children were on their farm.
“They were killed instantly and nothing was taken from them,” a police officer privy to the details of the incident said.
This is despite the ongoing peace efforts led by a multi-agency security team in the area, following similar incidents in the past, that have claimed tens of lives.
Area residents have decried the deteriorating security situation in the area.
“At least 20 people have been killed in this area in the last 90 days,” the security officer, who sought anonymity, said. Locals are calling on Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to initiate more ‘radical; measures until peace is restored.
