NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 18- Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit have recovered heroin worth Sh7.7 million in 3 days and arrested five suspects.
Of those in police custody, three are Kenyans and 2 Nigerians.
Detectives told Shahidi News that the illegal drug was nabbed in various dens within Nairobi, during raids between October 10 and 13.
The suspects, who were being held at Muthaiga police station, were arraigned on Monday morning at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport law court.
Police sought more time to hold the suspects pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigations.
Two suspects were caught in action while at their drug den located within Kahawa Sukari. Police said they were found while blending and re-packaging the narcotics in readiness for distribution within Mathare area.
“During the search, several packages of heroin weighing approximately three kilograms, cutting agents, packaging materials, square ruled books, a broken glass used for dividing narcotics, blenders, weighing scales and already packaged narcotics in bundles of ten were recovered,” reads an incident report seen by Shahidi News.
According to detectives, the traffickers receive their narcotics from Kampala in Uganda and Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania through courier services.
Early October, a Kenyan court sentenced a Nigerian drug trafficker for life and slapped him with a hefty fine of Sh180 million.
The ruling was issued by JKIA law court Lucas Onyina, who is the Principal Magistrate.
The convict, Autine Obinwanne Igwillo, was arrested in November 2017 alongside other four former Kenya Airways (KQ) crew who he had recruited into the drug trafficking business.
They had been recruited through Chadwick Okoth Dondi, a Kenyan national currently serving a fifteen years jail term at Manyani maximum prison.
