NAIROBI,Kenya, Nov, 3 – Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has clarified that all learners in both primary and secondary schools nationwide will proceed on a midterm break starting November ,19,2021.
Learners will resume learning on November,23,2021.
There was confusion after an earlier circular by education Principal Secretary Dr. Julius Jwan directed county education directors to ensure secondary schools across the country are closed for mid-term break on November 19.
“The circular for midterm released by Dr. Jwan yesterday is for all students not for high school students only. By the grace of God on 19 of this month, all children will go home. The ones in various schools even ones in day schools will be staying with their parents.” Clarified Education CS Prof George Magoha.
Magoha made the clarifications during a three-day international conference on technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development at the Muranga University of Technology.
The education ministry decided to give schools a break following a petition by the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association.
The school heads association expressed concerns over the lack of a mid-term break saying learners needed time to rest and a take a break from the demands of learning in schools.
Mid-term break was initially scrapped off with the ministry saying school needed to make up for the time lost during six-month closure as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Though not defineitively established, it is said the recent cases of school unrest nationwide was a result of the lack of mid-term breaks in some schools.
