NAROK, Kenya, Nov 20- Police in Kilgoris town have launched a manhunt for three suspects who escaped from their cells at night.
The three, identified as Shadrack Leparan, Enock Ndege, and Patrick Mausa are reported to have escaped the police cells through a hole in the wall.
A report filed at Kilgoris Police Station showed that the three escaped by breaking the cell wall.
Jalus Okoa, the officer on duty when the suspects vanished told his seniors that he did not notice that the suspects escaped from the cells.
“The prisoners had created a hole on the brick wall by removing some bricks next to the cell doors facing the report office,” reads the report.
There were a total of five suspects in the cell and the two who stayed back told the police officers that they also did not notice the escape of the cellmates.
Police have been forced to open an inquiry file after the night duty officer also denied seeing the suspects escape.
Shadrack Leparan, 29, is a murder suspect while Enock Ndege 28, and Patrick Mausa 32, were being held for stealing.
At least three police officers including Carmax Okelo who was on duty at night, Jalus Okoa who took over from Okelo, and Andrew Bett in custody and will be charged on Monday with aiding the escape of prisoners.
Such incidents have lately been rampant, raising serious security concerns. In Mid-October, a self-confessed child serial killer was stoned to death, after mysteriously escaping from a police cell in Nairobi, on a day he was meant to take plea to murder charges.
Masten Wanjala was being held at the Jogoo Road police station and managed to travel all the way to Bungoma, undetected, where he met his death.
Wanjala had even played a football match with locals when he was identified and pursued by an agitated mob at his maternal home, where he was killed.
